VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT : CAMPUS CARES
Jenn Hollern
Jenn did her work study with Pittsburgh Cares through Chatham University. When she called Pittsburgh Cares and found out one of her favorite alums (Alexa) was working with college students, she was hooked instantly! Some of her favorite projects/agencies include Global Links and the Squirrel Hill Food Pantry because of the amazing groups of volunteers. Jen says, “In a perfect world…people would have enough food, children would know what love feels like, to-do lists would be replaced with “people to see” itineraries, and money would be a tangible object again, not an objective.
Ian Brown
Ian served an Americorp term with Pittsburgh Cares as our Campus Cares Program Assistant from August 2007 to June 2008. He decided to sign up for Americorp because he was looking for something that would leave a great impact on Pittsburgh and his favorite agencies/projects included working at Pressley Street High Rise and ASSET Inc. Ian says, “In a perfect world…April Fool’s Day would be more than once a year. Upon leaving Pittsburgh Cares, Ian commented that he would miss the service elevator, but most of all, the staff at Pittsburgh Cares.
Kaitlin Villines
Kaitlin did her work study with Pittsburgh Cares through Point Park University. She is motivated to volunteer because there are so many people less well off than she. Kaitlin is thankful everyday for everything she has and wants to help others have hope. Everyone deserves to have a happy life! Her favorite quote is, “When you cease to make a contribution you begin to die,” by Eleanor Roosevelt. Kaitlin’s favorite place to eat in Pittsburgh is Pizza Roma in Oakland because the prices are good and the food is delicious!
